Adding space to your home is one of the most rewarding projects you can take on, and one of the most involved. Whether it is a room addition, a second story, or a sunroom, here is what to expect from start to finish in the CSRA.
Step 1: Design and scope
Every good addition starts with a clear plan. We look at how you live, what you need, and how the new space connects to the existing home, structurally and visually. This is where budget, layout, and materials get defined.
Step 2: Permits and approvals
Additions almost always require a building permit. In North Augusta that runs through the Building Standards Department, and on the Georgia side through Augusta License and Inspection or the Columbia County building office. Plan review, site plans, and sometimes flood plain checks come into play. We handle this so you do not have to.
Step 3: Construction
With permits in hand, the build begins. Foundation or framing comes first, then rough ins for electrical, plumbing, and mechanical, followed by inspections at each stage. A well managed schedule keeps trades moving in the right order and avoids costly rework.
Step 4: Finishes and final inspection
Drywall, trim, paint, flooring, and fixtures bring the space to life. A final inspection confirms the work meets code, and then the room is yours to enjoy.
How long does it take?
Timelines vary with size, complexity, and permitting. A simple room addition moves faster than a second story or a full wing. The best way to get a real timeline is a walkthrough of your home and goals.
Permit requirements differ by city and county and can change. Confirm current rules with your local building department before you begin.
